About Gus’ Farm…
Gus Franchi started his farm in Mason, NH the year he got out of the Marine Corps in 2018. His operation takes place on 55 acres of leased land in southern NH, raising pigs, beef cows, and turkeys alongside his wife and three young children. The priority of the farm is to have a positive impact on the environment, ensure the well being of the animals, and provide the best quality local food for the community.
The turkeys are raised outdoors on pasture in a rotational grazing system the majority of their lives. They have a mobile shelter, fresh water, and access to locally milled grain for optimum nutrition. A guardian dog named Princess lives with them and keeps them safe from predators. The turkeys eat the pasture forages, bugs, worms, and find their own grit (turkeys digest their food by adding small rocks to their craw to grind down their food like our teeth do). As they rotate around the pastures, the grass where they’ve foraged eventually grows back more green and lush from the soil absorbing nutrients from the turkey manure. This lush grass in turns feeds Gus’ beef cows and sheep.
At the end of their growth, the turkeys will go to a local family butchery with a professional processing facility. They are packaged with the gizzards stored in a separate plastic bag within the carcass of the bird. Gus’ turkeys are always fresh, never frozen.
When you purchase a Gus’ Farm turkey, you are supporting humane animal welfare, as these birds were raised outdoors the majority of their lives being able to live a natural turkey lifestyle. You are supporting a veteran and family-owned New England small farm. And you are supporting the fight against climate change by buying a product with low food miles. These turkeys were raised their whole lives on one farm, and then processed in the neighboring town. They will travel just 25 miles to our farm for pick-up before they reach your own Thanksgiving table. This is compared to the thousands of miles the majority of Thanksgiving turkeys travel from the factory they’re raised in, to the processing facility, and eventually to grocery stores across the country.
The fresh and flavorful meat of a locally raised turkey will be evident in every bite you take.
